AFC Leopards star facing seven months in the sidelines

AFC Leopard’s youngster Kayci Odhiambo will undergo knee surgery in 6-7 weeks’ time, coach Patrick Aussems has confirmed. The budding central defender hurt his knee against Wazito FC a fortnight ago and it was initially thought that it was a minor problem. It has now been established that the youngster will require surgery that will keep him out for up to seven months. The tactician has confirmed that the player is currently undergoing his pre-surgery preparations before he goes under the knife in seven weeks’ time.“Kayci is out for six or seven months, he will have surgery in six or seven weeks. Right now his knee needs to be stable before the procedure and so he will be out,” the tactician said.Kayci Odhiambo injured his knee against Wazito FC yesterday. Praying it’s nothing too serious because the young lad is having a great season. The confusion in Leopards’ backline was clear when he went off.#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/VSjTI364j8— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) April 19, 2022 The youngster’s injury is a big blow for Ingwe who are already short at the back. Against KCB on Sunday for example, with Tedian Esilaba equally sidelined, Aussems opted to pair Robert Mudenyu and Washinton Munene at the heart of defence, Munene is the team’s first-choice left-back but had to play in central defence with the team’s options at the back limited.Odhiambo joined Ingwe at the start of the season from Mt. Kenya United United. Naturally a defensive midfielder, he grabbed a place at the heart of defence and became of the first choice center-backs at the club. The tactician further explained why he had to take off Victor Omune in the closing stages of the game against KCB. The attacker, who scored one and won a penalty for the second was feared to have picked an injury ahead of next weekend’s derby but for Aussems it was more of a precautionary move.“I took out Omune because he felt something and I want the players to be 100% ready for the Sunday game,” he added.
