Government scores major one past FKF in the corridors of justice

The deposed Football Kenya Federation office petition challenging the legality of the decision by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed to throw them out of office has been quashed by the High Court.Amina invoked her constitutional powers and replaced the FKF office bearers with a 15-member Caretaker Committee in November last year upon receiving a report from the Registar of Sports, forcing the former to seek justice at the High Court. However, efforts by the ousted office to regain control have suffered a blow after Justice Hedwig Ong’udi ruled that Amina acted within her mandate under the Sports Act to install the committee. In December last year, the committee scored a first over the disbanded team after the High Court declined to bar the former from discharging the duties of the federation on the interim pending the ruling of the case.FKF through its lawyers;Eric Mutua, Charles Njenga, Victor Omwebu and Silvia Matasi had moved to the corridors of justice seeking orders to stop the government-installed committee from taking over, arguing that it was an illegal entity that was and would not be recognized by FIFA.However, Ong’udi ruled that the committee was at liberty to run the functions of the federation awaiting the final judgment. The ruling comes hardly hours after Amina received the report from the committee that has been in office since November last year. She said a roadmap will be availed on Thursday after meeting President Uhuru Kenyatta.
