Kenyan international Joash Onyango earned praise from his compatriot and Kagera Sugar head coach Francis Baraza after Simba SC’s 2-0 win over the club in a Tanzanian Premier League clash on Wednesday night. The former Gor Mahia defender kept a clean sheet as he and his centre back partner Pascal Wawa managed to smother every Kagera attack to move them closer to log leaders Yanga SC.Former Gor Mahia defenders shine in Tanzania, SwedenBaraza who won the Kenyan Premier League back in 2006 with Sony Sugar praised Joash for his aerial abilities which posed a challenge to his tactics of the day.“I had to draw the Simba defenders and then open them up with passes to create spaces in their defense line but Simba were smart and they did not fall for this tactic that we tried to use.We could have gone wide and used crosses to beat them but (Joash) Onyango is very good in the air, we had to look for very creative players who could beat their players and pass their defense but it was too late,” said Baraza in his post match interview. Joash has been instrumental this season for Simba, especially in the CAF Confederation Cup and is reported to be in line to sign a new contract with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.Baraza however commended his boys for the impressive showing, especially in the second half where they dominated proceedings and put Simba on the back foot for large spells.Rugged Kenyan international defender agrees to new deal in Tanzania“I would like to commend the boys because it was a tough match, we lost but the boys gave a lot of positives. We gifted them the goals because my boys relaxed a bit but that is football. Our plan was to ensure that they don’t get a goal in the first half but they managed to do that, our goals came from our own errors when we were in possession of the ball,” added Baraza.
