Sports Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohammed has finally named a Transition Committee that will be tasked with steering football matters in the country for the next five weeks after the six-month tenure of the Football Kenya Federation Caretaker Committee came to an end on Tuesday 10 May.In a gazette notice issued on Thursday 13 May, the Cabinet Secretary appointed a 12-member team that will be assisted in the execution of their mandate by a six-member Secretariat.In the Transition Committee, there are no new faces appointed with Retired Justice Aaron Ringera, who was the head of the Caretaker Committee, once again maintaining his place as the Chairman of the new body with Maurice Oyugi also retaining his seat as the Vice Chairperson. Six of the members from the initial Caretaker Committee have been excluded from the Transition Committee, top of the list being Titus Kasuve. Fatma Adan (Hodi), Philip Musyimi Mue, Elisha Chepchieng Kiplagat, Fredrick Tureisa Lekesike and Richard Omwela are the other five to be omitted.In the Committee’s Secretariat, Herbert Mwachiro, Hiba Hussein, Gabriel Warigi and Dr. Walter Ongeti have all been left out as well with Handa, Kamweru, and Muchemi previously at the secretariat joining the main committee.The mandate of the Transition Committee shall be to:(a) conduct the affairs of Football Kenya Federation in accordance with the Constitution of Football Kenya Federation;(b) ensure that Football Kenya Federation operates within the provisions of the Sports Act, 2013;(c) co-ordinate and ensure the smooth running of Football Kenya Federation operations, including team preparations for local and international sporting events; and(d) co-ordinate and facilitate the validation of the draft Constitution of Football Kenya Federation.Additional reporting by Murimi Njiru.
