You are hurting referees, boss pleads with CS Amina

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Head of Referees Sylvester Kirwa has lamented the Sports CS Amina Mohammed’s decision to appoint a transition committee saying it is going to lock out Kenyan referees from upcoming international competitions. On Friday, Amina named a transition committee to oversee the running of football activities for the next five weeks. The committee comprises majorly of members from the caretaker committee whose six-month mandate came to an end earlier this week. With the move not in line with FIFA’s directive of restoring the disbanded FKF back to the office, Kenya is likely to miss more international competitions. Harambee Starlets missed out on an AWCON chance while Harambee Stars are certain to miss the 2023 African Cup of National qualifiers. There is a further blow to Kenya as referees with FIFA badges will not be able to officiate in international competitions with the nation currently suspended. Among the affected are Peter Waweru and Gilbert Cheruiyot both elite referees who have handled competitions in the continent and outside. The worst-hit could be Mary Njoroge who was set to officiate at the FIFA Women’s World Cup scheduled for next year in Australia/New Zealand. NSL clubs want matches postponed, table four conditions to CS Amina“I’m a very disturbed person – surely what do I do with International Referees who are already selected for CAF and even FIFA assignments? It takes serious consideration for such chances to be granted to our referees yet some people are comfortable with earning a salary on behalf of FKF in an incubator,” the retired referee wrote on social media on Friday evening. He further lamented the fact that Kenya clubs will miss out on continental football.“We have gone through all. Six months now in shadows. FIFA referees are missing in the CAF champions league, yet it does not touch anybody, the league is almost finished, where will they be representing us with all the expenses expecting to be in the CAF competitions?. Leadership is about bringing people together for a common goal. We need to appraise ourselves, what went wrong?” he posed.
