Angry Laporta: ‘This team doesn’t have leaders’

Juan Laporta is in at angry mode. At the end of the season in which Barcelona changed coach, brought in replacements in the January transfer window, finished second in La Liga and shrunk the club’s debt, Laporta is still not satisfied. Barcelona’s president talked today with the press and was not happy at all. He’s not happy with the players, he is not happy with the achievements, he is not happy with La Liga, and he is not happy with his player’s managers. Ok, let’s take one at the time.Joan Laporta on Barcelona’s negotiations with Gavi over his renewal: “We don’t understand him. He’s a player that we all like. He’s 17 years old with a magnificent present and future at Barcelona. We don’t understand why his representative is playing and comparing.” pic.twitter.com/MbaQ97HMXq— Football España (@footballespana_) May 25, 2022 And first on the line was the team, led by his handpicked coach Xavi. While assessing the season which just finished, Barca president didn’t mince words.  “I finished the season annoyed and disappointed. I am conscious that we’ve had injuries and that at some moments we’ve had chances, but I think that losing against Cadiz, Rayo Vallecano and Villarreal at home is something that makes you disappointed with the attitude of the team. I have suffered as much as Xavi or more from this lack of character. It has been a great disappointment that this team has not had leadership at any time” said Laporta.President Laporta: “In short, according to La Liga, even with 600 million euros in revenue, we could not have a salary margin. The latest news we have is this.” [l’esportiu] pic.twitter.com/VaPswazPlx— barcacentre (@barcacentre) May 25, 2022 Next in the line of ‘fire’ was La Liga and their officials. Laporta is angry because of their explanations of Barcelona’s financial dealings and he feels like whatever they do at Nou Camp, it’s not good for the league officials. And he doesn’t like that as well.“Even if we generated certain income, LaLiga’s criteria would not allow us to have a salary margin. We respect the rules, but we understand that they are strict and are a comparative offense with other countries. We are talking with LaLiga about these issues, but we see a very entrenched position. In short: according to LaLiga, not even by earning 600 million euros could we have a salary margin. There are operations that we are considering to improve accounts and LaLiga, instead of helping, is trying to harm us. It surprises me a lot” explained Laporta.(2.45) ROMA (3.35) FEYENOORD (3.20)Among the players who are in line for an extension with the club is a highly talented 17-year old Gavi. The negotiations are not going smoothly, and while youngster’s agent claims that he still waits for papers from Barcelona, Laporta is making noises.“His agent has had the renewal offer on the table for a long time. We don’t have any news they have accepted it. The news that we do have is that they are comparing and at some time will say something. We have said our position and for now, it’s not been accepted. Gavi is a player that we all like and has a present and a magnificent future at Barcelona. If we have players that come out of the academy, we make them an offer of a present and a very good future, and if the agent is comparing and delaying the decision, it’s understandable that I don’t like the situation” Laporta explained.Zahavi: Bayern did not lose a player called ‘Lewandowski’ but a man called ‘Robert’And finally, Laporta couldn’t give any good news regarding new Dembele’s contract or Lewandowski’s arrival.“Dembele has our proposal and a date to pronounce himself, because there is no greater margin. Lewandowski has one more year on his contract with Bayern and that’s the situation. And that’s it, I can’t say more. Let everyone work. He’s a high-quality player, who we like a lot too, but he has a contract” said Barca’s president.
