Two trophies, only four defeats in an entire season and still – nothing but tears of sorrow for the Reds

You’re a Liverpool fan? Buckle up then, cause this ride will be both tormenting and cathartic for you.It doesn’t matter how many times you fall, as long as you find ways to stand up every time and continue your life. That’s the lesson Jurgen Klopp and his boys should take into consideration after that sleepless night in Paris.Defeat in the #UCLfinal pic.twitter.com/BiigWV7HM9— Liverpool FC (@LFC) May 28, 2022 Believe it or not, it was their only fourth defeat of the entire season, in all competitions altogether (UCL, EPL, FA Cup, League Cup) out of 63 games. But incredible 49 wins after, the Scousers were shown the way out of the club called ‘Quadruple’ in a nasty and harsh way. Just a few days ago, they were in contention for all four trophies. However, they have to settle with “just” two cup trophies, which is not bad, but not great either. Especially considering the fact they were left without Premier League and Champions League silverware.PEP WINS IT! Gundogan’s brace pushes City from the brink of the inferno to the Premier League title!Los Blancos can’t lose a Champions League final – Real Madrid are at the top of Europe for the 14th time!Inter and Real Madrid in the UCL.Leicester City and West Ham United in the EPL.And that’s all. Yes, those are the only Scousers’ losses this season across all competitions. And yet, they were enough to tarnish their dreams.Liverpool lost 4 out of 63 games this season. Respect needs to be given to Jurgen Klopp’s men despite the defeat last night 👏 pic.twitter.com/Fw0Zkj5cU1— SPORTbible (@sportbible) May 29, 2022 It sounds even more agonizing compared to, for instance, that memorable Fergie’s Man Utd Treble in 1999. Back then, the Red Devils won 11 matches less than Liverpool this season but still managed to go down in history as one of the best teams ever. Obviously, it’s not only important how many games you lose or win, but when and how. And the difference between that Fergie’s phoenix and Klopp’s contemporary side is the latter find it hard to win it when it really counts the most. Most defeats in Champions League finals: 🇩🇪 Jurgen Klopp [3] 🇮🇹 Marcello Lippi [3] Another #UCLfinal loss for the German coach… 😬 pic.twitter.com/UedWDxRNkQ— Statman Dave (@StatmanDave) May 28, 2022 The German tactician is now levelled with Marcello Lippi on the top of the list of coaches that lost most UCL finals – 3 (one with BVB, two with Liverpool, and both against Real Madrid). The only one he won was that one against Tottenham in 2019 when Mo Salah scored the opener from the spot. And there lies another issue of this Liverpool squad – undoubtedly, one of the most prolific players in the world, Salah, hasn’t scored a single goal from an open play in 11 (eleven!) finals for the Reds.Liverpool have failed to score in all 3 of the finals they’ve played this season… pic.twitter.com/qbdZfeGGRo— talkSPORT (@talkSPORT) May 28, 2022 Don’t get us wrong, it doesn’t mean the Egyptian star is not worth a standing ovation and eternal praise for what he’s done at Anfield. Still, it’s undeniable that the lack of his goals has influenced Liverpool’s outcome, not only against Real Madrid.##EDITORS_CHOICE##Despite the excruciating loss, Klopp’s team will return home on Sunday and head out on parade around the city. The club and council decided to go ahead with the parade after the Reds secured the Carabao and FA Cup this season.”And tomorrow, we will celebrate the season,” Klopp said after the UCL final and added:”It’s good that we don’t have to do that now immediately. But after a night’s sleep and maybe another talk or speech from me, the boys will realise how special it was what they did. Even if nobody on this planet would understand that we have a parade tomorrow, we still will do it, and I really hope that everybody who has the chance to get to Liverpool is there tomorrow and celebrates together with us a fantastic season which we all had together. It didn’t end like we wanted, but yeah, that’s facts.”The winner takes it all… (©Julian Finney/Getty Images)A defiant Klopp has vowed Liverpool will return even stronger next season and has told fans to book the hotels for next year’s Champions League final in Istanbul.”I have a strong feeling we will come again. The boys are really competitive and are an outstanding group – they will be that again next season. And we go again. Where’s it next season? Istanbul? Book the hotel!” concluded he.
