In the first two months of 2022 alone, Iga Swiatek and Daria Kasatkina faced each other three times across three different continents and each time the result was exactly the same. In total, Swiatek conceded just 11 games, each win more comprehensive than the last. As they squared off again with a French Open final on the line, the true challenge for Swiatek given her dominance was again handling the growing weight of the moment.
As she has done throughout the week in her first grand slam tournament as the world No 1, the main attraction, she handled herself spectacularly and rose to the moment with one of her best performances of the fortnight. In the process, Swiatek returned to the French Open final for the second time in three years, dominating Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 6-1 to advance.
