Barca rejects CVC deal, will reduce player’s wages again

Some time ago, Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta gave an interview for Radio Catalonia, and one of the main topics (as always) has been the financial status of the club ahead of the upcoming transfer window. Laporta revealed back then that activating one or two financial ’injections’ would practically heal Barcelona’s economic wounds. The first variant is the payment under the agreement of La Liga with the investment fund CVC, according to which the clubs will receive a financial incentive, but consortium will take the income from television broadcasts in the next 50 years. The second is that the club sells 49 percent of the rights to use the coat of arms and the license for props (BLM) at a price of 200,000,000 euros. This would be the last resort, so agreement with CVC was more likely. Are Barcelona in trouble again? Players considered as ‘done deals’ far from putting pen to paperIn the meantime, Barca signed two more players on a free transfer (Kessie and Christensen) but can’t register them (yet), while a bid for Robert Lewandowski from Bayern is a big one (around 35 million euros) and the Catalonians need money. But, in a new twist today, they have decided to refuse the CVC deal, which was expected. RAC1 now reports that walking away from the CVC proposal means that the board will now come under pressure to find a different way to bring in the funds in a short time.21.45: (2.30) Spain (3.25) Portugal (3.60)So, the BLM deal for 200 million euros is on, and is expected to generate significant revenue, but they will need to find other ways to accrue more funds, because this will not be enough. The other options are reducing player’s salaries, like they did last season, but this time, the players who already reduced their wages or signed new contracts after January 2022 will be spared. The third option will be selling some of their players, but not the ‘dead wood’ (Umtitti or Braithwaite), but rather important players who can generate cash, like Frenkie de Jong for example. How will they resolve this, remains to be seen.
