AFC Leopards ace opens up on difficult season

AFC Leopards forward Cliff Nyakeya has given a breakdown of his 2021/22 campaign, a season that he turned out for Wazito FC before crossing over to AFC Leopards in mid-season.The winger returned to the FKF Premier League at the start of the season after he terminated his contract with Egyptian side, FC Masr. He signed for Wazito before ending his association with the club at the start of the year, moving to AFC Leopards.##NAJAVA_MECA_6453938##Unlike his previous seasons, Nyakeya found the 2021/22 season tough as he did not a score a single goal compared to his time at Mathare United where he was a frequent scorer for the Slum Boys before he crossed over to Egypt. The player believes not being part of Wazito team during pre-season played a part in his struggles this season.“I joined Wazito FC a week to the start of the just concluded 2021/2022 KPL season after some weeks under medication. With absolutely no preseason I anticipated it to be a tough one but stayed positive that I could pick along the way with more training sessions and matches. Unfortunately, sometimes things don’t turn out to be the way we expect them to happen, so I had to part ways with Wazito FC only for 4 months after joining them. This wasn’t my wish but circumstances forced me to leave on a mutual agreement with the Club,” read part of his statement posted on social media.Kenyan International Cliff Nyakeya joins AFC Leopards on a short-term deal.#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/Q06MxdCQXd— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) February 2, 2022 When he moved to Leopards, the player alongside John Makwata, Victor Omune and Josphat Lopaga had to wait for over a month for their debuts as the team was serving a transfer ban. They finally made their debuts at the end of March.“After a month I received a couple of offers and felt that AFC Leopards deal was good for me and signed with them. Found out later that new players weren’t allowed to play but after some weeks training with a lot of uncertainty if/when we would play, finally we were allowed to play. Always fought every minute I was involved in for this team. Thanks to the AFC Leopards management, Technical bench and the amazing small group of players which has a couple of young players with a great potential to be top players but also can’t forget the amazing fans of this club that real pushed us a lot in every minute of the matches we played however the outcome was and I appreciate your support, THANK YOU,” he continued. The player is looking forward to a fruitful 2022/23 campaign.“I know my potential and I know next year with Good health and God’s protection I will have a good season Thank you so much my followers for your support and sorry for I know my account has been dormant this season, I promise you it’s not going to happen again… Elections coming up on Aug kindly vote wisely and always maintain peace,” he concluded.
