Former Uganda Cranes defender handed coaching job in the US

Major Soccer League side, New York Red Bulls have appointed Ugandan, Ibrahim Sekagya as their feeder team head coach until the end of the season.Sekagya, who until his appointment served as the team’s assistant coach takes over from Gary Lewis who was shown the door on Saturday with the team currently winless in their last 15 games and just two wins under their belt all season.##NAJAVA_MECA_6483287##“We’d like to thank Gary for his time with the club and wish him the best in all of his future endeavors,” said Red Bulls Academy Director Sean McCafferty said in a statement before the club confirmed the appointment of Sekagya.The former central defender started his career with KCCA in Uganda and went on to play in Argentina, and Austria before joining New York Red Bulls where he retired in 2015 and took up a coaching role.“Ibrahim Sekagya has been named the Interim Head Coach of New York Red Bulls II for the remainder of the 2022 USL Championship season. Sekagya is in his eighth season as an Assistant Coach with Red Bulls II and has filled in as Head Coach for three matches during that span,” read the statement in part.The decision came after the team got a 3-0 thrashing at home on Saturday in the hands of Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.
