Unfortunate Sacco lose points to Shabana in Transition Committee boardroom decision

National Super League side Fortune Sacco have been dealt a slight blow in their quest for promotion to the FKF Premier League after the FKF Transition Committee awarded the abandoned match against Shabana to the opponent.Fortune were set to play Shabana at Kianyaga on June 1, 2022, at Kianyaga Stadium starting from 3 PM but the match did not kick off as indicated as a Madaraka Day event being hosted at the venue did not conclude in time for the match to take center stage which saw the visiting Shabana protest the delay in kick oo time and the match was eventually called off.Kianyaga jamani mlikua mnataka tuchezee mpira wapi? pic.twitter.com/JHCcyax8s2— Shabana Fc Kenya (@Shabanafckenya) June 1, 2022 The decision saw Shabana awarded the game on three points, two goals basis and in turn moved up the log past Muhoroni Youth into the promotion-relegation playoff spot.”Reference is made to the above-mentioned match scheduled to have been played on 1st June 2022 at the Kianyaga Stadium in Kerugoya. From the match reports, it is noted that Shabana FC did not attend the pre-match meeting in which it was agreed that the kick off time be adjusted to 4pm occasioned by a Madaraka Day event which was being hosted at the venue.From the foregoing, the FKF Transition Leagues and Competitions Committee notifies both clubs that Fortune Sacco FC forfeits the match in favor of Shabana FC pursuant to rule 3.3.2. of the FKF Rules & Regulations 2019, which states: “A club which refuses to play or is responsible for a match not taking place or not being played in full shall forfeit the match.Consequently, Shabana is awarded three (3) points and two (2) goals,” the communication from the Committee to both clubs read.

During the pre-match meeting the, one in that Shabana was not represented, it was agreed that the kick-off time would be pushed to 4 PM after the event concluded, which contravenes with article 3.1.3. of the FKF constitution which states that Fixtures and/or kick off times shall only be changed as herein provided and at the discretion of the FKF National League and Competitions Committee 3.1.4. Save where permission to change a fixture and / or kick off time has been given.While delivering their ruling on the abandoned match, the Transition Committee’s Leagues and Competitions Committee noted that they had received material indicating that the Madaraka Day celebrations at the venue ended at 4:30 PM EATThe Kirinyaga-based side has lost only one match while playing at home, the only defeat coming against Naivas who won by a solitary goal in March.Despite the decision, Fortune Sacco are firmly second on the log with the league approaching the homestretch.
