Gor Mahia name interim coach after Spier exit

Gor Mahia have confirmed that assistant coach Michael Nam will step into the head coach’s shoes as the club seeks to appoint a foreign coach before the commencement of the 2021/22 season.The coaching position fell vacant on Tuesday after the club parted ways with German tactician Andreas Spier. The former Harambee Stars technical director was in charge of the team for five months and with his six-month deal expiring the club has decided not to offer him a long-term deal.##NAJAVA_MECA_490525##On Tuesday morning the club released a statement confirming his departure from the club. He led Gor to a third-place finish in the just-concluded season.“We can confirm that we have mutually parted ways with head coach Andreas Spiers. His contract ended and we are now in the market for a new coach. We wish him well,” Gor wrote on their social media pages.In a separate interview club Secretary Genera Sam Ochola confirmed that Nam, a former Kenya U17 team head coach will continue with the club. He will in the meantime step in as the interim coach as the club seeks to appoint a new foreign coach ahead of next season.##EDITORS_CHOICE##“I can confirm we have parted ways with Spier. We haven’t sacked him but have opted not to renew his contract which has expired. Michael Nam will be in charge as we look for a foreign coach,” he told the Nation.The new coach will face the challenge of not being able to sign players ahead of the new season. Gor Mahia are currently serving a transfer embargo. They will only be able to recruit players from January 2023 when the ban elapses.
