Legacy Football Academy from Kenya has been pooled alongside Sweden’s trio of IFK Orby, Jarla IF 1, and Gais 2, together with FC Chambly from France for the world’s largest international youth football tournament dubbed Gothia Cup.The team is expected to fly out this week in time for the tournament that kicks off on Sunday.Since its inception in 1975 over one million players from 149 countries have taken part in the tournament which draws 1700 teams from 80 nations annually, seeing 4500 games on 110 pitches in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden.Kenyan academy up against Liverpool in prestigious tournament in PolandLegacy Football Academy was pioneered by former Harambee Stars coach Stanley Okumbi and holds its sessions at the Karura Forest grounds every weekend.The team was enrolled in the Under 13 category of the Gothia Cup and will send 16 players to Sweden with 13 of them being Kenyans.Legacy Football Academy will use the platform to expose the players to professional football clubs who usually send their scouts in a bid to unearth the next best footballer.The academy has also set a target of gracing the finals of the tournament where their players will stand a better chance of being scouted.The players will travel in batches with the first traveling party already in Europe training with a number of top academies before linking up with the rest of the team in Sweden.In May this year, the Kenyan football academy had a strong showing with their U11 side at the Salt Mine Cup in Poland, a tournament graced by Liverpool, Sporting CP from Portugal, Dinamo Zagreb, Banik Ostrava among others.
