Roma are better! Lazio president questions the club’s fans and their loyalty

Since the start of the transfer window, Lazio fans are at war with club president Claudio Lotito and sporting director Igli Tare. The main reason for it was the lack of transfer activity. But even when Lazio secured four new recruits, the supporters remained unconvinced by the club’s ambitions.Claudio Lotito with Lazio’s best goalscorer Ciro Immobile (©AFP)Goalkeeper Luis Maximiano arrived from Granada for $11 million, defenders Nicolo Casale, Alessio Romagnoli and Mario Gila came through the door, as well as midfielders Maros Antonio and Mattia Zaccagni – for a combined fee of around $40 million. After all that activity – Lotito’s the annoyed one, annoyed by the fans’ reluctance to purchase season tickets.Monday, 20.00: (1.95) Dortmund (3.45) Valencia (3.60)In a desperate attempt to get the Laziali to support the team, Lotito might have done the worst thing possible – he suggested that the faithful of AS Roma, Lazio’s bitter city rivals, are more loyal. In a meeting with Lazio fan group representatives, Lotito urged the Lazio fans to put their money where their mouth is.”When will you get season tickets? We have built a great Lazio. We brought new players in. Now it’s up to you to do the rest. We have only 8,500 season ticket holders right now. Roma currently has 36,000!”It’s the ultimate provocation for the fanatic Lazio supporters. Will it motivate them to buy season tickets, or will they continue to go against Lotito and Tare? Time will tell.Claudio #Lotito 🎙:”We’re building a better #Lazio so when will you all start buying season tickets? We are at 8000 while Roma is at 36000.” “#Milinkovic? When did i put him up for sale? No i’m not selling him.” pic.twitter.com/mI2m9Tb2iv— LazioLand (@Lazio_Land) July 17, 2022 Lazio and Lotito have had a love-hate relationship for over a decade now. They’ve often publically protested against their club’s supremo, and even called him “The thief of dreams” in 2014 because they felt the president is holding the club back. “Go away”, “Set Lazio free”, and “Get out of our club”. Fast forward eight years, and Lotito is questioning the fans’ loyalty. That can’t be healthy for a club competing at such a high level.
