Erratic Transition Committee leaves Shabana sobbing as Sacco count their Fortunes

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Transition Committee has owned up to making a mistake in their earlier ruling on the National Super League match pitting Fortune Sacco against Shabana FC where they awarded the latter three points after erroneously adjudging that Sacco had forfeited the match.Back in June 1, the two sides were set to meet at the Kianyaga Stadium in Kirinyaga at 3pm. However, the match failed to kick off as planned given the Madaraka Day function hosted at the venue on that day went past the scheduled time.Shabana went on to lodge an appeal and the Committee returned a verdict in their favour as they awarded the Kisii-based side three points and two goals and communicated its verdict in a letter dated July 1.Fortune Sacco awarded their botched match against Shabana. The match had initially been awarded to Shabana FC by the FKF Transition Committee. #NSL pic.twitter.com/WscAuD1EH1— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) July 21, 2022 The promotion chasing Sacco however appealed that decision to the committee’s Independent Appeals and Disciplinary Committee (IDAC) saying it rushed to a verdict before taking time to listen to both sides. After a review of the appeal, IDAC found that Sacco had done no wrong as they made immediate arrangements to get the game underway after the event ended late but that Shabana had refused to play then.“Fortune Sacco FC made all the arrangements that they possibly could to ensure the match started at the scheduled time but the due to unavoidable circumstances, the match delayed by an hour. However, when the event came to an end Shabana FC refused to take to the field to start the match as per the Referee’s instructions. Therefore, the FKF Transition Committee erred by awarding the points to Shabana FC as they refused to play the match hence they should forfeit the match,” the decision signed by IDAC Chairman GMT Otieno on 19th July read. The decision means:1. APS Bomet (68) are not champions yet. 2. Muhoroni Youth (62) are out of automatic promotion. Their only hope is in the playoff.3. Fortune Sacco and Murang’a Seal will fight for the second automatic promotion slot.#NSL https://t.co/fkkyi6hesL— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) July 21, 2022 The Committee went ahead to overturn their erroneous decision of awarding Shabana three points as they ruled in favour of Sacco by giving them all the three points.“Consequent upon the above findings, and as to what orders, declarations and reliefs this Committee should grant, the following are the directions of the Committee: -##NAJAVA_MECA_6514799##THAT the decision of the Leagues and Competitions Committee is reversed and Shabana FC forfeits the match and three (3) points awarded to Fortune Sacco FC on a 2-0 basis. THAT each party shall bear its own costs. The Football Kenya Federation Disciplinary Committee shall issue a reasoned ruling on this matter within 14 days from the date hereof,” they declared. The decision comes as a a massive boost to the top-flight chasing Sacco who jump upto third on the log on 63 points while Shabana dropped to sixth.
