Zesco’s Otieno, Oburu set for a four-team tournament starting today

Kenyan duo of custodian Ian Otieno and forward Vincent Oburu at Zesco United is expected to be in action for their side in a four-team pre-season tournament that kicks off today in Lusaka.The Zambian Super League giants face off with Green Eagles in the second match of the tournament at Nkoloma stadium, the first match being an early kick-off between champions Red Arrows and Zanaco at the same venue.The tournament is an initiative of both Zesco United and Red Arrows who merged hands to put it up ahead of the 2022/23 Zambian Super League season and the CAF Competitions.Former AFC Leopards hotshot Vincent Oburu signs three-year deal with Zesco UnitedWhile Otieno featured in most of the matches last season, Oburru was dealt a blow shortly after joining the team as he spent the better part of the second leg sidelined with injury and thus will be hoping to use the tournament to get up to speed ahead of the new season.Zesco’s head coach Numba Mumamba expects his charges to be at their best when they face Green Eagles later in the day, revealing that they will give all the players a chance to play.“We are taking this tournament seriously in as much as we are trying to assess the players. We will give everyone a chance so that we build a strong foundation ahead of the new season. They have come here so that we could see what they have to offer. As a coach I can tell you that it will be hard to come up with the first 11 especially with this competition from the young lads. I think this is good and healthy for everyone including the senior players. Everyone needs to earn their place through hard work,” he added.
