Wantaway Matasi returns to Tusker training

After a fortnight of self-imposed exile, Tusker FC goalkeeper Patrick Matasi made a quiet return and took part in Thursday’s training with the Brewers at their Ruaraka backyard.Matasi has been trying to force a move away from Tusker FC to Kenya Police FC where he has also been promised a job in the police force. Tusker however refused to grant him his wish insisting that the law enforcers must pay for the remainder of his one-year deal.##NAJAVA_MECA_6544723##The custodian won the golden love last season after keeping 18 clean sheets in 25 games, it is this fine run that attracted the interest of big spending police who tried to lure the custodian to their yard without paying a dime for his services, which expectedly would be a substantial amount. In a bid to force a move, the player went AWOL two weeks ago and insisted that he was never going to train with the Robert Matano-led team again as he wanted to leave the club as soon as possible and link up with Police.“I will not join Tusker training. This is my life we are talking about. Why should my club insist on me buying out my contract yet I’m set to join the National Police Service and not Kenya Police football club?,” the player said in an interview with the Nation a week ago. With Tusker refusing to budge, the former AFC Leopards, Posta Rangers and St. George FC keeper made a quiet return to training on Thursday.“He trained with the team and looked focused. As his teammate I definitely want him to stay because he is not only a top player but also one of the leaders in the dressing room. The final decision is however his but we are happy to have him back on board,” one of the players who did not wish to be mentioned told Mozzart Sport.##EDITORS_CHOICE##Meanwhile, the Brewers are set to sign Bidco United keeper Brian Opondo. This means the club will have four keepers with Matasi, Michael Wanjala, and Brian Bwire already with the team. Wanjala’s contract however expires in a month’s time and he could leave the club should Matasi stay.
