PSV nearly escaped defeat in Scotland after a huge goalie blunder

Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes. Some goals are scored due to a player’s technical skills or geniality, and some goals are scored due to player’s mistakes. The game between Rangers and PSV Eindhoven will be remembered by the mistakes made by both team defenses, as the result gave us no clue about the eventual winner: 2-2. Obviously, a high stake in tonight’s first tie – a Champions League spot was too much for these two teams, who were nervous and scored 4 goals due to individual mistakes and with ‘help’ from a boring Scottish rain. The teams have ‘decided’ to postpone the final result for next Wednesday, when the return leg will be played in Eindhoven.8 – @PSV have progressed in eight of the last ten European ties they started with a draw away from home. Hope. pic.twitter.com/Gd9RhRUKjb— OptaJohan (@OptaJohan) August 16, 2022 This was an interesting game for long-time friends and Netherlands teammates Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ruud van Nistelrooy, who self-confessed that they never dreamt of becoming coaches, but in the end ‘crossed over’ and even ended up against each other in the most important game of the season. First half was similar to the rain – boring. Ibrox was wet from a persistent rain and both teams were nullifying each other, with no chances. And then, from the first corner, PSV scored for the lead. All the clubs from Great Britain are famous for their areal duels and goal, but tonight, the Scottish team made two blunders in the air and they were punished. Lundstram headed the ball away from his goal, but only to the ground next to him, and was picked up by Sangare for the lead: 1-0. But just three minutes later, it was time for another mistake, this time by PSV’s defense, who allowed Rangers’ best assistant James Tavernier to get the ball to Čolak, who was very precise for the equalizer. The rain finally stopped in the second half, but the mistakes continued to happen, and the next one was due to rain. A wet ball came to the PSV keeper Benitez after a Lawrence free kick, and it just slipped from his hands and into the net. A great blunder from the Argentinian goalie for the total turnaround and 2-1 for Rangers. Ibrox exploded, but then another corner for PSV followed and again the Scots were not at their best, allowing Obispo to make the final result with a powerful header. It will surely be an interesting second leg in Eindhoven in 7 days.
