For five years, Police FC head coach Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo endured a nagging back pain that complicated his work, which requires a lot of movements and agility.Seeking a permanent solution, he checked into a Nairobi hospital last week on Friday for a “very delicate” spine surgery to correct a slipped disc.According to the National Health Service, NHS (UK), a slipped disc is when a soft cushion of tissue between the bones in your spine pushes out. It’s painful if it presses on nerves. It usually gets better slowly with rest, gentle exercise and painkillers.

“I feel so relieved,” Pamzo, who is now recovering at home for the next four weeks, told Mozzart Sport.”Even though I still cannot walk for long or lift heavy, I feel a lot of difference, and the pain is going away,” he added.Pamzo steadied Police’s ship after a turbulent start to the 2021/22 Kenyan Premier League season, finishing ninth after a string of good results in the final bend.”We finished on a high last season, and it’s what we want to build on heading into the new season beginning September.”

While away, assistant coach Musa Otieno has been overseeing preseason.The team played a warm up against Nation FC on Saturday, winning 5-0 with Clifton Miheso scoring a brace. Alvin Mang’eni also bagged two goals with Clinton Kinanga netting once.Pamzo made it to ABSA Grounds Ruaraka to watch the friendly match.Despite boasting big names such as Miheso, Aaron Shakava, Musa Mohammed, Francis Kahata among others, Police have further strengthened their squad, signing Patilah Omoto from Kariobangi Sharks, Reagan Otieno and Baraka Badi from KCB FC.”We have already made plans and our aim is to do better than last season,” said optimistic Pamzo.
