Two great volleys for the peaceful draw between Wolves and the Magpies

After a strong finish from last season, and well picked quality signing in the current transfer window, Newcastle United are quietly hoping that this season they can break into the top 10. Last season the Wolves finished in that position, just 2 points above Newcastle and today, both teams played a good and interesting games with chances which ended with a peaceful draw, but only after a thrilling injury time: Wolverhampton – Newcastle 1-1. For just the third time since the start of the 2016/17 season, Newcastle have had 20+ shots in a Premier League away game:◎ 20 vs. Watford (2021)◎ 26 vs. Brentford (2022)◉ 21 vs. Wolves (2022)They got their goal in the end. 😀 pic.twitter.com/fbUlqcl4Vc— Squawka (@Squawka) August 28, 2022 The game will be remembered by two great volleys which sealed the draw, but there were other interesting things too. The Magpies were not at full strength, as the first choice striker Callum Wilson, and the newly acquired striker Alexander Isak were not available, as well as Brazilian midfielder Bruno Gimaraes. Still, Eddie Howe’s crew were closer to scoring and considering the chances, should have won the game. In 2022, only Liverpool (53), Manchester City (50) and Tottenham (48) have won more Premier League points than Newcastle (43).Both clubs had their perfect chances, but the keepers either saved or the shots were unprecise. Newcastle may had the edge until the 38th minute, but then captain Ruben Neves took the ball from 25 meters and struck a thunderbolt into the bottom right corner for the lead. Newcastle continued their light pressing in the second half, but Wolves traditionally have a tough defense and chances are hard to come by. Without injured Callum Wilson, his substitute Chris Wood had only once chance (and missed it) so other players had to step in. And French midfielder Allan Saint-Maximin continued his excellent party from last week’s draw with Manchester City and scored the last minute equalizer with a beautiful volley. Newcastle are travelling to Liverpool full of confidence while Wolves are without a win in their last 11 Premier League matches so far.
