Toffees show teeth, the Reds continue to drop points in the title race

Like it or not, Liverpool is not the same team as last season. Like it or not, the Reds continue to lose points and are doing it even against their old ‘customers’. Liverpool fans were happy with 9-0 win over Bournemouth and thrilled with a dramatic 98th minute underserved win over Newcastle, but even in that game their footballers were not playing well. Today they went into the Merseyside derby full of hope, since they haven’t lost at Goodison Park since 2010, but Everton was firm, Everton had their chances, and Everton had England international keeper Pickford which was enough for a draw: Everton – Liverpool 0-0.The last six Merseyside derbies at Goodison Park:◉ Everton 0-0 Liverpool ◉ Everton 0-0 Liverpool ◉ Everton 0-0 Liverpool ◉ Everton 2-2 Liverpool◎ Everton 1-4 Liverpool ◉ Everton 0-0 Liverpool Normal service has been resumed. 😀 pic.twitter.com/DKsLKAKjSG— Squawka (@Squawka) September 3, 2022 Everton boss Frank Lampard has lost all four of his Premier League meetings with Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, with his sides conceding at least two goals each time (11 in total) but today he faced a clean sheet and can be very, very pleased with his team’s display. The football fans witnessed one of those game where everything is perfect apart from the score. 36 shots by both teams (11 on target), three posts and a bar, nullified goal, numerous saves and explosive tackles, the Merseyside had it all.FT: Everton 0-0 LiverpoolLiverpool drop points in four of their six games to open the Premier League season 🤷‍♂️ pic.twitter.com/nXbrWYFsBX— B/R Football (@brfootball) September 3, 2022 First half was somewhere between a dull midfield battle and fantastic chances. It took half an hour for both teams to start being interesting, and then chances started to pour in. First it was Everton who nearly scored the first goal, but Davis has seen his effort with the outside of his right boot agonizingly ping off the far post. Minutes later, Liverpool had a post and a bar in the matter of seconds. Nunez calmed the ball beautifully in the penalty area with his shoulder, and then struck the ball right into the net. Pickford managed to touch it just enough to redirect the ball into the bar, and then Diaz smacked the ball against the far post. The second half was again a bit slow before the chances started to appear. Pickford was at his with three direct saves, two from Firminho and one from Fabinho. He saved Firmino’s one shot and one header and then managed to save Fabinho’s shot through a crowd of bodies. And then Everton made a superb counter attack, but Maupay missed a chance of the match for Everton, or more likely, Allison saved it. The Toffies scored in the next attack, but VAR overturned Coates’s shot due to offside. McNeil came on instead of Gordon and had the second best chance for Liverpool, but the Brazilian keeper made a fantastic save and prevented a euro-goal. And then it was time for Mohamed Salah to score (his only chance), but he hit the post in the 95th minute. This time, there was no additional minutes for the Reds, and they lost points again, after only 6 games.ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 6SaturdayEverton – Liverpool (0-0)17.00: (2.30) Brentford (3.50) Leeds (3.35)17.00: (2.14) Newcastle (3.50) Crystal Palace (3.80)17.00: (2.14) Nott.Forest (3.50) Bournemouth (3.80)17.00: (1.53) Tottenham (4.50) Fulham (7.25)17.00: (2.40) Wolverhampton (3.25) Southampton (3.40)17.00: (1.58) Chelsea (4.30) West Ham (6.75)19.30: (8.00) Aston Villa (5.30) Man.City (1.43)Sunday 16.00: (1.96) Brighton (3.50) Leicester (4.50)18.30: (2.70) Man.Utd.
