Morocco’s RS Berkane are Africa’s supremos after edging out Wydad Athletic Club 2-0 in the CAF Super Cup at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, winning their maiden Super Cup title in the process.Charki El Bahri opened the scoring after just 32 minutes, heading home a cross by Hamza El Moussaoui from the left side of the attack to give Berkane the lead, one that they protected to the break. Before the goal, Bahri had gotten a chance to put Berkane ahead from a set-piece delivery, but his headed effort was picked up by Wydad’s custodian Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti.FULL-TIME! ⏱🇲🇦 @WACofficiel 0-2 @RSBfootball 🇲🇦The 2021/22 #TotalEnergiesCAFCC champions bag the win with a goal each-half! #TotalEnergiesCAFSC pic.twitter.com/1buSy9vwY2— TotalEnergies CAFSC 🏆 (@CAFCLCC) September 10, 2022 On resumption, Wydad pushed for an equalizer, protracting an attack after another but falling short on the attacking third while Berkane sat back back, absorbed the pressure and hit their opponent on the counter.Sofian El Moudane doubled the lead for Berkane 71 minutes in from the spot after Chadrack Muzungu was brought down in the box by Amine Aboulfath prompting the referee to award a penalty.Wydad thought they had the chance to pull one back and get halfway back in the game after the referee initially pointed to the spot one minute after Berkane’s second goal, only for the penalty to be overturned after consulting the VAR.HALF-TIME! ⏱🇲🇦 @WACofficiel 0-1 @RSBfootball 🇲🇦The 2021/22 #TotalEnergiesCAFCC champions take the lead at the break with El Bahri’s header! #TotalEnergiesCAFSC pic.twitter.com/gnf8l9jo9K— TotalEnergies CAFSC 🏆 (@CAFCLCC) September 10, 2022 Arsène Zola had the chance to half the deficit with seven minutes left but his headed strike missed the target and went out for a goalkick. With two minutes left to the clock, Berkane could have had a chance to make it 3-0 and seal the game after the referee again pointed to the spot for a foul on Brahim El Bahraoui by Ismail Moutaraji but the referee chalked it off after, again, consulting the VAR.
