The state of panic in Liverpool: will the Reds honor Queen Elizabeth against Ajax

Ahead of tonight’s Champions League game against Liverpool and Ajax, the whole Reds community is in a state of panic. And no, you are not right, they are not panicking due to their team’s terrible form, they are panicking because of a minute of silence. Apart from beating Bournemouth 9-0, and Newcastle 2-1 in the 10th minute of overtime, Jurgen Klopp’s boys had three draws and two defeats in all competition with 10 goals conceded. The Reds had a week more to train and get back on track, as all Premier League games were postponed due to Queen Elizabeth’s death. And the queen’s death seems to be a major distraction to the club’s executives and coach Klopp. For Her Majesty ❤️🌹 on behalf of everyone at @LFC pic.twitter.com/GA3S9vOBJk— Jordan Henderson (@JHenderson) September 12, 2022 Apart from having to prepare the game against dangerous Ajax, the German also had to lift the mood of his players, and he had to look at the Napoli game (4-1) a couple of times, calling it ‘a horror show’ and the worst game they played in his seven-year tenure. But he also had to appeal to the home supporters at Anfield to respect the minute of silence in his pre-match programme. Liverpool made a request to UEFA to allow a minute of silence for the queen, and the European governing body allowed it, and now the club is in problem – will the fans boo the queen?Should Anfield sound the alarm like Stamford Bridge did?Liverpool fans booed ‘Abide With Me’ and ‘God Save the Queen before last season’s FA Cup final at Wembley. They also booed Prince William when he appeared on the pitch. Boris Johnson, prime minister at that time, condemned those who booed. The city of Liverpool suffered during the deindustrialization of the UK economy in the 1970s and 1980s. At the beginning of the eighties, there were riots in town for 9 days, and the state’s handling of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 further entrenched those anti-establishment feelings. So now, everybody trembles when honouring the Queen in Liverpool comes up as a subject.Three problems for Bayern: Beer, sausage and NagelsmannCoach Jurgen Klopp was forced to talk about the issue, even though he is from the German Republic and would like to concentrate on the game instead.“I don’t think our people need any kind of advice from me for showing respect. There are plenty of examples where people showed exactly the right respect. One which surprised me, and I was really proud of that moment, was last season when we played Manchester United around a very sad situation with Cristiano Ronaldo’s family. And that is what I expect. For me, it is clear that’s what we have to do. That’s it. I am 55 years old and she is the only Queen of England I ever knew. I don’t know her, but the things you can see she was a really warm, nice, loved lady and that is all that I need to know. It is obviously not about what I think, but what people felt who are much closer to her and I respect their grief a lot, and that is why I will show my respect with the minute’s silence if it goes through” said the German.Everyone attending tonight’s match, please show respect and observe the minutes silence. You probably think that any backlash won’t affect you but it will affect us and family members with the increase in abuse over Hillsborough. Respect costs nothing and that goes both ways 🔥— Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance (@HillsboroughSu1) September 13, 2022 And after a Hillsborough support group called for supporters to “show respect” tonight before the Ajax game, another Liverpool legend, Sir Kenny Dalglish agreed and added:“Brilliantly put. I hope everybody at Anfield can respect these wishes tonight”.UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – ROUND 2Tuesday19:45: (8.00) Plzen (4.50) Inter (1.42)19:45: (3.60) Sporting (3.45) Tottenham (2.05)22:00: (1.55) Liverpool (4.40) Ajax (6.50)22:00: (3.15) Leverkusen (3.30) Atl.Madrid (2.45)22:00: (1.45) Porto (4.50) Club Brugge (8.50)22:00: (1.80) Bayern (4.00) Barcelona (4.50)22:00: (2.00) Olympique Marseille (3.60) Eintr.Frankfurt (4.00)Wednesday19:45: (1.37) Milan (5.10) Dinamo Zagreb (10.0)19:45: (3.25) Shakhtar (3.40) Celtic (2.35)22:00: (1.40) Chelsea (4.80) Salzburg (7.75)22:00: (1.48) Real Madrid (4.40) RB Leipzig (6.75)22:00: (3.60) Copenhagen (3.40) Sevilla (2.20)22:00: (1.25) Man.City (7.00) Dortmund (12.0)22:00: (2.10) Juventus (3.50) Benfica (3.80)22:00: (16.0) Maccabi Haifa (9.50) PSG (1.13)22:00: (4.60) Rangers (3.70) Napoli (1.85)***odds are subject to change***************************************************************************
