Mathare United going back to its roots

Mathare United Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jacktone Obure says the club will be going back to its roots and will recruit players from its Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) zones from the 2022/23 season going forward.United have lost nearly all their players to rivals due to financial challenges that bewildered the team for the last two seasons. It resulted in the team not completing the 2021/22 season and were subsequently relegated from the top tier by the FKF Transition Committee although their relegation is a matter that they have hinted that they will challenge. The team has commenced preparations for the new season even though it is unclear which league they will be taking part in and Obure says they are going to get players within their system that over the years fed the clubs and other top-tier and lower league clubs. He added that they will majorly be signing young players.”We are going back to signing players from our Mysa Zones and our coaches have been going around identifying the players that we will sign. We have also made a decision to sign players from 17 to at least 22 years. We will definitely have two or three veterans but the majority in the team will be young boys who are committed and are determined to fight for the Mathare United badge,” he said during an interview on Vybes Radio.Punter mints thousands from Ksh 100 stake##NAJAVA_MECA_6667983##The football administrator added that by recruiting youngsters they will be able to bring down their high wage bill.”Last season our wage bill was high and it is something we are trying to bring down. When you have a team of young players then it is easier, we want to have a manageable payroll,” he added.Mathare United’s presence during last week’s KPL Caucus meeting where a decision not to play in the Transition Committee-run league was made raised eyebrows and many argue that the Slum Boys are not about to go away just yet.Elite Preseason Cup: Police share spoils with Ulinzi Stars in disciplined forces derby
