Toothless Wolves could become coachless Wolves

Wolverhampton’s meek surrender in Saturday’s 2-0 loss at West Ham United could be Bruno Lage’s last match in charge of the Premier League’s struggling team. Supporters booed the Portuguese coach’s substitutions and the Wolves board is now set to discuss whether to end his 15-month reign. The club’s start to the season, and results towards the end of the last campaign, have placed Lage in danger, and Wolves are now weighing up making a change.Since the victory over Aston Villa on 2 April, Wolves have picked up just one win from the last 15 Premier League matches and lost nine. It’s a terrible trend that hasn’t changed despite the club spending more than $100 million on new players during the close season. Wolves have also scored just three goals in the league this season, and the travelling supporters made their feelings known during the West Ham game. They chanted “You don’t know what you’re doing” to Lage following the withdrawal of Matheus Nunes and Nelson Semedo in a second-half double-substitution. ##NAJAVA_MECA_6685982##At the full-time whistle, only five Wolves players went over to acknowledge the away support, with Ruben Neves holding his hands up to a chorus of cheers in what appeared to be a heartfelt apology. “They need to respect the fans because the fans have been there since the first minute to support us. The only thing I can say is that I’m sorry about the situation. We’ve tried to solve these little problems we have, and at the moment, we aren’t getting points or goals, but we are working hard for them. We can promise that we will talk about that because the fans are the most important thing for the club. They are the soul of the club. We go to the pitch to run for them.”The former Benfica coach will have to find the winning formula quickly, but the next fixture doesn’t promise it could happen soon. They’ve got Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next weekend. Wolves will be there – but Bruno Lage may be elsewhere by then.
