Bernard Mwalala raves about Ulinzi Stars’ staggering attacking prowess

Ulinzi Stars FC head coach Bernard Mwalala has noted improvement in the team’s attack and targets more sharpness before the 2022/23 season commences.Mwalala, who took over at the military outfit three weeks ago has been tasked with revitalising the team that was underwhelming last season and at one point was on at risk of slipping into the relegation places. The club responded by redeploying coach Benjamin Nyangweso and handing Vincent Otieno the reigns temporarily before Mwalala was hired. The attack was one of the team’s Achilles heels last season. They managed to score just 20 goals. Only Mathare United, who did not end the season scored fewer and the former Harambee Stars attacker will be keen on having the team firing again.##NAJAVA_MECA_6698103##The team has been boosted by the return of Hillary Simiyu from military training and Boniface Muchiri who has linked up with the squad after pass out. The club also acquired National Super League (NL) top scorer Elly Saenyi from Mwatate United and Mwalala has options. He has already noted improvements in the forward line but insists they must keep improving.“I think in terms of attack we have improved, we have scored in all the games that we have played so far, and that means of the things that we are getting it right because it is something that we have been working on in training and we have to keep polishing it because you cannot win a game without scoring goals we just have to be sharp upfront,” he said.At Ulinzi, Mwalala reunites with attackers that he has worked with before or has interacted with and although he says it is an advantage, he opines that a lot still has to be done.“I have worked with most of these attackers before and of course it gives me a good place to start from but again I have grown as a coach and there are things that they have to learn, they have also developed under different coaches as players and I also have to watch them closely to understand them better. I worked with Muchiri (Boniface), Bikokwa (Mark) and Masita Masuta at Nzoia Sugar. While Elly (Saenyi) and Hillary (Simiyu) are players that I followed closely when they were in school and I think that we have a good pool of strikers,” he added.Kibwage tastes freedom after running down contract at Sofapaka
