Seven goals, two penalties and one red card in ‘The Rhine’ derby

In the space of three weeks, Bundesliga fans enjoyed the three biggest derbies in German football. On 17th September, Borussia Dortmund won 1-0 against their old foes Schalke 04 in the The Revierderby, and then BVB played the Der Klassiker yesterday, and managed to secure one point, after equalizing against Bayern in the 94th minute for the final 2-2. Finally the thrid biggest derby in German football was played today and the winner was clear – Borussia Monchengladbach secured all three points against Cologne 4-2.11 – Ramy #Bensebaini scored Gladbach’s first brace in a #Bundesliga derby against Köln for 11 years – im November 2011 Mike Hanke had scored twice in a 3-0 away win at Köln. The Foals were better team by all accounts, which is a good sign for their fans, who were shocked with last week’s thrashing in Bremen 5-1. Luckily for them, former Norwich coach Daniel Farke managed to shake up his boys and they delivered in style.BORUSSIA M’GLADBACH 3-1 FC KÖLN⚽ 47′ Lars Stindl (#BMG)pic.twitter.com/nB4E9XREmS— All goals replay (@goalsreplayg) October 9, 2022 Doublé de Ramy Bensebaini cet après-midi 🇩🇿pic.twitter.com/eesDi0Fh8i— ABADA Abdelkader 🇩🇿🇩🇿 (@ABADAAbdelkader) October 9, 2022 Marcus Thuram pic.twitter.com/jZglPY6WNn— ÷ (@CBenzo_) October 9, 2022 The home team scored in the 27th minute after a free kick and Friedrich gave them a lead with the header, but Cologne equalized after VAR gave them a penalty just 4 minutes later. But Borussia used the foul made by Florian Kainz to convert the penalty and take the lead again. The game was effectively over since Kainz also received a second yellow card. Borussia is just too strong at home with a player advantage against anybody. Lars Stindl scored a screamer from 20 meters before Ramy Bensebaini scored a brace (he was also the penalty taker). Cologne managed a late consolation goal in the 83rd minute for 4-2 before Marcus Thuram scored in injury time for the final score.BUNDESLIGA – MATCHDAY 9Friday Hoffenheim – Werder 1-2 (1-1)/Dabbur 32 – Ducksch 18, Fullkrug 87 pen/SaturdayAugsburg – Wolfsburg 1-1 (0-1)/Gumny 55 – Gerhardt 27/Bayer Leverkusen – Schalke 4-0 (2-0)/Diaby 38, Frimpong 41, 53, Paulinho 90/Bochum – Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 (0-0)/Hofmann 71, Ndicka 87 og, Forster 90+1/Mainz – RB Leipzig 1-1 (1-0)/Ingvartsen 45 – Nkunku 80/Borussia Dortmund – Bayern 2-2 (0-1)/Moukoko 74, Modeste 90+5 – Goretzka 33, Sane 53/Sunday M’gladbach – Koln 5-2 (2-1)/Friedrich 27, Bensebaini 45, 76, Stindl 47, Thuram 90+4 – Kainc 31, Huseinbasic 83/18.30: (3.10) Hertha (3.35) Freiburg (2.50)20.30: (2.70) Stuttgart (3.10) Union Berlin (3.00)***odds are subject to change
