White smoke billowing in football after club CEOs reveal league start dates

The 2022-2023 Football Kenya Federation Premier League is projected to formally kick off between November 12 and 20 this year. The season was initially planned to kick off in August but from time to time, the start dates were pushed forward due to several reasons among them is the General Elections and the confusion witnessed in the Kenyan football scene. The dates were arrived at following a closed-door meeting by Chief Executive Officers drawn from clubs that ply trade in the top tier.##NAJAVA_MECA_6725527##Last month, the club bosses convened a meeting to deliberate on the significance of playing in a competition that is recognized by the world’s governing body.Kenya still remains suspended by Zurich following the move by the outgoing Cabinet secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage Amina Mohamed to disband the federation in November last year.Out of the eighteen clubs, fourteen had representatives in the meeting that lasted or hours with the trio of FC Talanta, Bandari and Nzoia Sugar sending their apologies.Kakamega Homeboyz who have in the recent past indicated that they will not be party to a unsanctioned league did not respond to the invitation neither did they send an apology. FKF Secretary General Barry Otieno was also in attendance albeit as an invitee.Shaban Kenga confirmed as Bandari Youth head coachInterestingly, the duo of Mathare United and Vihiga Bullets who were relegated by the FKF Transition Committee whose mandate expired last week had representatives in the meeting.Addressing the press shortly after the meeting, Gor Mahia CEO Raymond Oruo revealed that they had unanimously agreed that the competition will start next month.“Todays’ meeting was a follow up of the one we had last month where we emphasized on the non-resumption of the league until some things are sorted out. When you look at the timelines provided by CAF to submit the winner of the league, it is realistic for the league to kick off between November 12 and 20,” he said.
