The FIA has officially announced that the F1 Chinese Grand Prix is postponed due to the spread of the coronavirus. The event, scheduled for April 19, could be held in the future “if alternative dates are found and conditions improve,” according to the statement:
Official FIA statement:
“In view of the continued spread of the new coronavirus and after ongoing discussions with the Federation of Motor Sports and Motorcycling of the People’s Republic of China (CAMF) and the Shanghai Sports Administration, the Grand Prix Promoter of China , Juss Sports Group, has officially requested that the China FIA Formula 1 2020 Grand Prix be postponed.
The FIA, together with Formula 1, have jointly decided to accept this official request from the promoter and postpone the 2020 FIA Formula 1 Grand Prix of 2020, originally scheduled for April 19.
As a result of continuing health concerns and with the World Health Organization declaring the coronavirus as a global health emergency, the FIA and Formula 1 have taken these measures to ensure the health and safety of travelers, participants in the championship and the fans, which remains the main concern.
The FIA and Formula 1 continue to work closely with the teams, the race promoter, CAMF and local authorities to monitor the situation as it develops. All parties will take adequate time to study the feasibility of possible alternative dates for the Grand Prix later in the year if the situation improves.
The Chinese Grand Prix has long been an important part of the F1 calendar with many passionate fans. The FIA F1 community hopes to compete in China as soon as possible and wishes the country the best in this difficult time. “
