Wazito FC head coach Jeffers Odongo says the recently concluded Western Region Mentorship friendlies were beneficial to his side and believes it was an eye-opener ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.The FKF side was among the teams that graced the tournament that was staged at the Mumias Sports Complex and won by Kakamega Homeboyz while Wazito, which has since been acquired by Kisumu-based engineer, Joe Odongo finished second.##NAJAVA_MECA_6757265##Wazito have been in the rebuilding path after losing nearly all their players who were part of the team last season and Odongo, who was elevated to the position of head coach after the change in ownership says the tournament was an eye-opener.“It was a good tournament for us because it helped us asses our preparedness for the upcoming season. We played six matches in four days and that means we engaged all our players and I have a clearer picture of the squad,” he stated.He went on to discuss how the tournament helped them asses the players’ fitness levels and areas that still need to be worked on. There were also positives to pick from the four-day tournament.“There were positives and negatives to pick. I know where we are in fitness terms both as individuals and as a team. I know the areas that we are weak in and need improvement, and I know areas that we are strong in and we have to maintain, we know what works and what does not work for us because we tried several things during the tournament,” he said, “In overall the tournament was a success because it gave us a run of good matches and we are now looking forward to the new season,” he added.
