Rainbow boss happy with team’s progress after friendlies against big boys

Rainbow FC head coach Eric Macharia is impressed by the strides his team has been making in pre-season and says friendly matches against top sides have helped grow the confidence of his team. The FKF Division One side had played a couple of top-flight sides during pre-season. They first featured in the Elite Pre-season Cup where they faced Kariobangi Sharks, Bidco United, and Sofapaka. They lost all the games and were tossed out of the Cup in the group stage.##NAJAVA_MECA_6767687##The club, which majorly recruits players from schools has also played Gor Mahia and on Friday they took on AFC Leopards at the Camp Toyoyo Grounds in a match that ended in a two-all draw. A Josphat Lopaga late equalizer denied Macharia’s boys what would have been a famous win. Edward Omondi and Paul Jawwa found the back of the net for Rainbow with Maxwell Otieno scoring the Leopards’ opener. From the game and other friendly matches against top-tier sides, Macharia is picking positive feedback and believes the games are helping grow his team’s confidence.“It was a good game against a big team and with time we deduced that we can actually compete against the best teams in the country. The boys’ confidence has been growing with each passing friendly game,” he told Mozzart Sport.Reflecting on the match against Leopards, Macharia said it is a game they would have won had they made the numerous opportunities they created in the match count.“We had many opportunities including the first-half penalty which we missed and had we utilized them the outcome would have been different. But again football is a game of mistakes and such things happen and we encourage our players to try and do it because it is only through practice that they will eventually get it right,”.Minnows Rainbow share spoils with AFC Leopards in four goal thriller
