Pick me, pick me! Kalvin Philips claims he’s ready to play despite missing two months of action

Manchester City’s midfielder Kalvin Phillips only made three substitute appearances all season. Still, he says he’s ready to play for England in the World Cup – even though he spent the last two months recovering from a shoulder injury. The 26-year-old informed national coach Gareth Southgate that he’s ready for selection and that he’s hopeful of being named in the Three Lions’ squad.Gym with the big man @ErlingHaaland 👊🏽 pic.twitter.com/TfSz6JJ3U5— Kalvin Phillips (@Kalvinphillips) November 6, 2022 The tireless midfielder, who’s already represented his country in 23 matches, is yet to find the form that made Manchester City pay $50 million to sign him from Leeds United. But his dedication to the national team made him give his all to ensure the quickest rehabilitation possible.”The shoulder’s perfectly fine now. I have gone through a seven-week process of recovering as fast as I possibly can for the World Cup. Everything is going great. I’ve obviously not done it for quite a long time but I’ve kept my fitness up and I could play 90 minutes. I’m not too sure. I’m very hopeful I can be involved.”##NAJAVA_MECA_6798274##Phillips last played against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on 14 September. Two games this week, against Chelsea on Wednesday and Brentford at the weekend, in the Premier League and EFL Cup, are his last chances for minutes before the national team departs for the Middle East.”Pep has been great and spoken to me quite a lot. After my surgery, I spoke to Southgate. I said I understood if he didn’t select me but he reassured me that as long as I’m fit enough, there’s always a chance I’ll be called up. I’ve done everything in my power to be as fit as possible and hopefully I will be involved.”Kalvin Phillips says that his “shoulder’s perfectly fine now” and he is “very hopeful” of playing at the World Cup.[via @BBCSport] pic.twitter.com/U4jw0dnuXR— mcfc lads (@mcfc_lads) November 8, 2022 Southgate will announce his squad on Thursday.
