King’atua double sinks AFC Leopards in friendly

A David Kingatua second half brace helped Vapour FC overcome FKF Premier League side AFC Leopards 2-1 in an friendly match staged at the Hope Centre Grounds on Wednesday morning.Coach Patrick Aussems opted to field the players who did not feature against KCB on Saturday, and the rustiness was largely visible.Leopards started the game positively with Victor Otieno down the right causing Vapour defenders problems. He created the first chance in the 2nd minute but Josphat Lopaga skied his connect from close range. Next he had a go on goal but his effort narrowly flew over.The minnows showed effort of their own but they failed to trouble Maxwell Mulili on Ingwe goal as their attacks were thwarted in the final third.Vapour had their first opportunities in the 21st and 24th minutes. Both fell to former KCB midfielder Martin ‘Zizou’ Nderitu but his shots didn’t trouble Muchesia.Leopards should have gone ahead in the 36th minute when Lopaga left a couple of players for the dead down the left before squaring the ball to Ojo Olaniyi who failed to make a connection. Vapour players cleared the danger. Robert Mudenyu had the last chance of the first half in the 43rd minute when Robert Mudenyu rattled the cross bar from close range.Six minutes into the second half substitute Ronald Shichenje was denied by Vapour keeper who blocked his shot from close range Otieno’s attempt on the rebound was equally thwarted. Shichenje had another attempt on goal three minutes later but the keeper was equal to the task.Against the run of play, Vapour went ahead in the 56th minute through former Sofapaka midfielder David King’atua who headed a well-delivered cross past Muchesia.The game slowly turned to an end to end affair. Shichenje in particular was a menace down the right for the minnows but his numerous deliveries were not converted.King’atua completed his double in the 85th minute when his low freekick found its way past Muchesia.Leopards won a stoppage time handball which Saad Musa converted for a 2-1 finish.
