Matano shares his take on the delayed resumption of competitive football

Tusker head coach Robert Matano has broken his silence over the three-week long break granted to clubs that ply their trade in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League. The competition was set to resume after the past international week but was pushed forward for another two weeks by the caretaker committee that also suspended action in the other two tiers. The committee that was appointed by the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage Amina Mohamed has been meeting various stakeholders among them are clubs to draft the resumption of competitive football.Matano fumes at South African referee in Sfaxien drawWhile partly blaming lack of competitive matches for their barren draw with Tunisia side CS Sfaxien, Matano said the break had denied him the opportunity to gauge his fitness of his players better and identify the weak areas in the team.Tusker needed to win the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup playoff by a big margin so as to inch closer to the group stages but labored for a goalless draw, a result that means they will have to work their socks off and win in Tunis or fight for scoring draw.📸| Some images from our CAF Confederation Cup match against CS Sfaxien at the Nyayo National Stadium yesterday.#KenyaMilele #Brewers4Life pic.twitter.com/ugaZOfxks7— 🏆Tusker FC (@tusker_fc) November 29, 2021  “You learn a lot when you face an opponent in a competitive match. It is difficult to pick the weaknesses of a team when the players are playing amongst themselves,” he said shortly after the game staged at the Nyayo National Stadium. At the same time, the experienced tactician admitted that they had sufficient time to train as a unit for the first time after a number of players arrived late in the transfer window. The former AFC Leopards boss also appreciated that the time was enough for some of his players to shake off light knocks.##NAJAVA_MECA_6008794## “At least for the first time we had the time to train as a team considering that some of the players whom we signed reported late. Some players have also returned from the treatment table,” he said.Tusker are expected to fly out in the course of the week for the return match in Tunis.
