Tusker FC’s marauding right back Daniel Sakari has hailed the leadership of experienced head coach Robert Matano and labelled it as the reason behind the Brewer’s resurgence in the 2021/2022 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL).At the start of the season, a busy fixture calendar that included playing in the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds coupled with early poor domestic form saw the 12-time champions occupy last position on the standings and at some point, found themselves 15 points off the table toppers. However, after a slow but steady turnaround in form, Tusker, who are the defending champions having ended Gor Mahia’s four year successive title winning on the spin, managed to live up to their tag and trim the deficit to only one point until last week where a barren draw against Nairobi City Stars opened their gap to leaders Kakamega Homeboyz to three points.16623In that recovery period that has seen Tusker go back to once again being in title contention, Sakari praised Matano for offering guidance and support that navigated the team back to the top.“Matano was not even in panic mode at all during the time we trailed by up to fifteen points during the season. He very much kept on encouraging us to keep on working hard and to focus on ourselves and our game. He instilled the belief that, even at that point, we could be able to catch up when we kept on winning game by game,” the former Kariobangi Sharks player told Mozzart Sport.🎖️| Robert Matano “The Lion” of @tusker_fc is your Coach of the Year#FKFPLAwards pic.twitter.com/Mxc0nxlbRP— FKF Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) September 14, 2021 With only four games remaining before the dramatic 2021/2022 season comes to an end, Tusker know very well that there is no room for slip ups if they are to complete their quest that saw them drag themselves from last position all the way to the top. They are scheduled to face Nzoia Sugar, Mathare United, Bidco United and Posta Rangers in the last four games.
